I'm deep in development on a new play for The Geffen Playhouse.  It's based on the book, "Be Quick, But Don't Hurry" by Andy Hill and John Wooden.  The story spans fifty years, centered on a player who grew up in LA dreaming about playing for Coach only to find himself rooted on the bench for four years.  This was during the height of the Vietnam war, when using sports as a political platform was far more controversial than it is today. Andy felt muzzled while on the team.  He left UCLA bitter and spiteful (don't meet your heroes), and went on to become the President of CBS Studios.  It was only 20 years after the regrettable experience that he realized everything he valued, he owed to Coach.  Their reunion, later on in life, is deeply moving and inspiring for anyone who has ever held a grudge, but not known how to move through it.

Latest Writer's Room Experience on "We Were the Lucky Ones."

You won't be seeing this show for a while, but when it comes out on HULU, this limited series starring Joey King and Logan Lerman is not to be missed. I’m so grateful Georgia trusted us to adapt her heart-wrenching story.

Last Friday was the last day of the We Were the Lucky Ones Writers Room—the culmination of 20 weeks of work ✨ I’ve been reflecting since on what an incredible experience this has been (more there on my blog) and—to be honest—feeling a little lost without the constant presence of these beautiful people and their big, big hearts and crazy talented minds. It was an honor and a joy to work with this team. Happy Friday, friends 🥂 I miss you all!!

The L.A. Writers' Workshop is a dynamic and talented community of playwrights at Center Theatre Group. Since 2005, we have invited seven local playwrights to spend a year researching and writing a new work with the feedback of their fellow writers and artistic staff.

Playwrights Adelina Anthony, Ngozi Anyanwu, Jonathan Caren, Dionna Michelle Daniel, Boo Killebrew, Kenneth Lin, and Kemp Powers are the 2019–2020 writers in residence at Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles. The collective will spend eight months in residence at CTG, where they will be in conversation with the organization's artistic staff and develop new work as part of the L.A.'s Writers' Workshop.
